Interest From Honda
In the last quarter of 2009, Pogo was approached by Honda to produce a demo track for a TV commercial. The commercial was to be broadcast throughout the UK, and in cinemas around the world.
Honda requested that Pogo micromix Empire Of The Sun’s track ‘Walking On A Dream’. With a Rode NT1-A and a Tascam DR-1, Pogo spent 10 minutes in his car recording the sounds that would construct the percussion for this track.
Sadly, after Pogo submitted his demo, Honda decided to take a different route. Due to popular demand, below is the Pogo track that never was!

Dear Pogo, I find this and all of your work quite remarkable. Obviously Honda needs to revamp their marketing Dept. I first discovered your music while downloading tracks from Last FM. I sent my brother “Go out and Love Someone” In turn he sent me an E-MAIL with an attachment of the video”Gardyn” My brother is an awesome musician and he just loves your stuff. So does everyone at work where my mp3 player is constantly playing through our stereo. I get a kick out of watching the reaction of my family, friends and co-workers when they first hear your music. My heart-felt thanks Bro’…. keep those creative juices flowing. There is a huge wave of fans here in Victoria BC, Canada.

I think the song is too much for a first time submittal. Car commercials usually like something that is easy listening or something that you can sing along to.
I bet their legal team decided against it because its got pieces of audio of ‘dont stop’ throughout the song. Add that with a car advert, and you can potentially have a case if someone crashes or whatever and decides to pin the blame on you or something rediculous like that…. only real reason why I’d think they wouldnt use it.
Dont get me wrong, its a brilliant track, but maybe a better vocal clip would be more suitable next time hey hehe.
We should write to Honda telling them to Reconsider. its been a while since they planned to use it, but i honestly think they would benefit from it like crazy. Honda, I believe, have great and pioneering adverts, and so this great, pioneering music just makes sense to be used.

And you know what? First time I saw the ad – I’m in the UK – my girlfriend said: ‘That’s Pogo isn’t it?’ I think somebody somewhere plagiarised your style. In any event, Honda made a poor decision ;-)

The song they have on the advert in the UK sounds like Honda tried to do it them selves It doesn’t sound pogo at all such a shame Pogo song would of worked better with it
i agree with the guy who said it would be one of the commercials you dont forget. Just like the geico commercial who made a smart choice to use royksopp in one of their commercial’s. so simple yet i still remember the commercial so well, its what started me on royksopp.
The Honda ad has been running for a few days now in the UK. If this wasn’t used then did you still do the current track on it because if it’s not, it really sounds like you did. You have SUCH a distinctive style which I love :)
I can see why they wouldn’t take it– advertisers like things that are familiar, and your work is delightfully original to the unfamiliar ear. Maybe they were scared that it was too artistic? Everyone’s afraid of alienating the “average” consumer, when “average” people are tremendously hungry for something new.

Silly Honda, PWNAGE is for those who are smart. Smart, sensible, and wanting to make money honestly while helping a pioneer artist rise to legend (Which he will [SUBCONTEXT!! someday his songs will probalbly be looked at as part of this digital music movement])

Curious if you did it on spec or were paid for your time? Ten minutes recording the sounds, but a lot longer to mix no doubt.
Also, did they say if they were worried about obtaining permission to use the film samples as being why they decided to ‘go in a different direction’?
This is a song I’d totally hear in a Honda commercial. Don’t understand why they turned it down :-/

Dear God. Pogo, i’ve never heard the song you sampled to make Walking On A Dream, but I’m sure it’s not even half as wonderful as what you’ve made. You should definetely put this up for download. I sometimes wonder about all the unused or unreleased music artists have made and we never get to hear. Post more if you have them. And I agree, Honda were fools not to use this.
