About Pogo

Pogo

Pogo is the pseudonym for the emerging 21-year old electronic music artist Nick Bertke in Perth, Western Australia. He is known for his work recording small sounds from single films or scenes, and sequencing them to form new pieces of music. Often described as ‘Dream Pop’, and ‘Trip House’, Pogo’s music and videos have attracted a large and devoted following that continues to grow every day.

His most notable track, Alice, a composition of sounds from the Disney film ‘Alice In Wonderland’, was received with much success gaining 4 million views on YouTube as of December 2010. Pogo has since produced tracks using films like ‘Up’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Sword In The Stone’, ‘Hook’, and ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’.

Bertke grew up in Invercargill, New Zealand. As a child, he was denied lessons in drumming under his tutor’s belief that he didn’t need them, and later received practical lessons in piano playing and MIDI arrangement from his music teacher in school. At the age of 10, Bertke found success with his friends as a rock band in which he drummed, winning several competitions and earning a position in the Pepsi Smoke-Free Rock Quest of 1999. He later discovered his passion for producing electronic music with the game ‘Music 2000′ for Playstation, electing this  as a hobby for several years to come. Today, Pogo continues to produce music and videos that draw tens of thousands of viewers to his websites every day, and is dedicated to changing the way we view copyright infringement in today’s remix culture.

  4. SeveralPeople says:

I would very much like to make music with you. I am very talented in music and it’s all i’ve ever wanted to do. That and acting have always been my strong point.
You’re not going to read this and your assistants will not either; this is just a system to make fans feel better. But you never know what you don’t know so i thought i’d give this the slightest bit of chance that it holds on to. I can be one of the greats. You already are. Maybe I’ll get lucky and you or one of your assistants will e-mail something besides a bull crap letter of thank you thank yous.
I’d like to see how you started your music off. Well, making it is no big deal, that’s the easy part. But how did you get it out there? Just putting up a bunch of youtube videos and advirtising it throughout websites? That makes sense. But wow, it’s amazing how popular your music is already. ( oh and people on last.fm are requesting you upload upolar ).
I play piano, have been since i was 4. I was never taught a songle lesson. I’ve never really had the oppurtunity to explore drums yet. But in Junior High i was the top student on the Steel Drums which is a Jamaican drum made of steel. It looks like a large bowl and is given specified indentions to give it a certain “bwaoh” sound. Like in “Under the sea” on the little mermaid. ;D I played flute before that but quit out of boredom because we played the same boring songs each year and it was aggrivating.
I want to learn Guitar and Violen but am struggling due to college hours and work. I’m taking Radio/Tv/Film as a major and i might take a theatre minor. Maybe that will open doors to my music career.
    I am hopng.
I play piano in my freetime.. We have a very old keyboard and it is extremely limited. If i could, i would record what i have written all my life but i do not poccess the money to empower that. Did you have any money? Is it possible to make it without having to perform? I am a great performest but i don’t think ii’d like performing without some kind of partner. And to have you as a partner would be ridiculus but theres not shame in asking. Say, Pogo and DJ SP? lol i sound pathetic. i don’t even know if that’ll be my name once i get a last.fm page. Which i want so bad but just dont have any recordings. *sigh*
Well if anyone who actually reads this needs a keyboardest, heres you person. Right here. Because it might sound like i’m way over my head, but i am a very amazing musician. =/ Its just not going anywhere right now, i want to join a BAND or SOMETHING. Pogo, what do you say, email me back? even though you live in Austrailia and i live in Texas, we can still talk about music developement. =D anyway, hit me back, just to chat.
~ some person who you think is crazy. oooo, you know what? i should do this whole essay thingie in poetry! ive done it before, but ive already finished it so i dont want to re-do everything. anyway, buh bye ^.~

Hey Pogo. Just letting you know I am in love with your mixes. It some of the most amazing music I have ever heard. I do some artwork and I would love to collaborate if that’s possibly, in any lifetime haha. My link is to my online portfolio and stuff. Sorry if this sounds stupid or random… Just another emerging artist in another realm.

  6. Im Pogos manager, and this definitely isn’t just some site to make the fans feel better. We make a habit of being as available as possible: my personal mobile number is in the banner, and pogo reads every email sent to his account which is posted in the FAQ section. Hes a very accessible artist. If you wanna reach out or have us reach back maybe you should post your email address with your message lol.
